CLA holds first electronic AGM (eAGM)

CLA has held its first eAGM, with all processes and necessary voting held online. Nearly 60% of members took part to produce an outstanding result, giving people throughout Australia the chance for an equal say in running the organisation. Following the eAGM, the new CLA Board re-elected Dr Kristine Klugman as President.

Polls declared, results announced

The first electronic Annual General Meeting (eAGM) of Civil Liberties Australia (CLA) has been concluded: a new Board is elected, and voting results are finalised for the four reports considered. Nearly 60% of members voted, which is an excellent outcome.

The Board for 2009-2011:

Nine people were formally nominated and seconded for positions on a Board, which may have a total membership of 12. Therefore the nine candidates were declared elected. They are:

  • Melissa Hinson
  • Kristine Klugman
  • Anne Cahill Lambert
  • Jessica Mohr
  • Kevin Popple
  • Bill Rowlings
  • Jim Staples
  • Anthony Williamson
  • Lance Williamson

Notices of Motion:

No notices of motion were lodged, so there was no need to hold an online discussion/debate, resolve the final question(s) to be put to members, and put the question(s) to members. The 2009 election allowed the processes and systems to be put in place to manage these activities, and for them to be tested virtually fully in anticipation of being needed in 2011.

Voting to accept/reject the four formal reports to the eAGM:

There were four items normally considered at an AGM which were put to the membership electronically for approval/rejection. They were:

A total of 129 votes were received, made up of 122 electronic votes and 7 postal votes.

2008 Minutes:  98 people (91 electronically, 7 by post) voted to approve the Minutes of the previous AGM, with no-one rejecting them. 24 members chose not to vote on this item, presumably as they were not present at the previous AGM.

For each of the President’s Report, Treasurer’s Report and Annual Report, 122 members voted electronically (and 7 by post) to approve the reports. There were no votes in rejection.

Summary:

The overall result, with about 58% of members taking part in the eAGM, is considered outstanding. The Board wishes to thank all members for taking the opportunity to have their say – your thoughts and contributions are welcomed at any time throughout the year, as well as at eAGM time.
